Borealis bound for new role
Published 17.12.2009 13:09:54 by John Bradbury
This is the Borealis, the new heavy duty deepwater construction ship acquired by Acergy which is being constructed at the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore to provide a new pipelayer for the global contract group.

Acergy's Borealis has been bought from Nordic Heavy Lift in Norway and is undergoing conversion at Sembawang from a pure heavy lift role to a combined heavy lift and pipelay vessel.

“Construction work is progressing as per schedule in Sembawang Shipyard,” Sembawang has declared.

Announcing the purchase yesterday - the value of the transaction with Nordic Heavy Lift was not disclosed - Acergy said the Borealis will become a strategic asset, equipped with 1,000t J-lay tower, plus a 600t state-of-the-art S-lay equipment spread, as well as support and construction systems to equip it to operate in harsh environments and deepwater worldwide.
