Acergy unveils new pipelayer

Offshore contractor Acergy has demonstrated its confidence in the future of the global offshore oil and gas market by unveiling plans to deploy a newbuild deepwater pipelay ship to provide state-of-the-art offshore construction capability.Already under construction at the Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore, Acergy's new vessels, called the Borealis, will be DP3 equipped with a 5,000T crane, a 600T S-lay equipment spread and a 1,000T J-lay tower. Also provision will be made so that the new ship can accept one of the company's heavy duty pipelay systems. “It will also be fitted with a range of support systems and construction equipment for worldwide deepwater and harsh environment operations,” Acergy declared today. “The Borealis provides unprecedented flexibility and capability, which together with our engineering and project management expertise, will enable us to meet our clients’ strategic needs, particularly in deepwater and harsh environment acreage,” added Jean Cahuzac, Acercy chief executive.
