More from Don area
Published 26.08.2009 14:42:18 by John Bradbury
More oil could be tapped from the Don area redevelopment by Petrofac after recently-drilled pilot holes hit additional oil accumulations.

After the Don West and Don Southwest fields both came onstream in the first half of this year using the refitted Northern Production floating production facility, Petrofac says further drilling in the fields has met with more success which will enhance field output.

“During the drilling of the Don Southwest water injection wells, two cost-effective pilot holes were drilled into adjacent reservoir structures, both of which discovered oil,” Petrofac revealed.

One of those pilot holes was drilled into a Horst area, which has “excellent reservoir quality with high oil saturations,” said the operator, while the second was drilled into a location known as area H, which hit a 18.29 m (60 ft) oil column

“These areas are being interpreted and are expected to be exploited during further stages of development of the field,” Petrofac indicted in its interim results statement.
